Be careful! The way the discs move can result in some very unexpected physics. If you've ever played one of those coin pushers at the arcade, you know what we're talking about!

The Strategy

Go For The Win!

Be Fearless!

Kabuto Sumo is a game that usually rewards a high-risk, high-reward style of play.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to carefully place discs in strategic spots. But, if you think there's a good chance to snag a lot of pieces or knock an opponent out, you should go for it!

Each wrestler is based on a real life insect and their physiological defense mechanisms.

They all have special signature moves and unique piece shapes that introduce wild, unexpected turns. Make sure to use their strengths (and avoid their weaknesses) wisely!

How To Play

1. Select your wrestler

Choose your favorite character - and don't forget to pay attention to their signature moves!

2. Slide your discs

Slide pieces straight into the ring from any position and keep what falls off.

3. Perform Signature Moves

Every wrestler has special moves that will give you a special advantage.

4. Victory!

Win by knocking our opponent out of the ring or by hogging all the pieces.

Kabuto Sumo: Insect All-Stars!

The Expansion

The Insect All-Star expansion brings eight non-beetle insects to the sumo ring.

Like their beetle counterparts, each new wrestler has their own signature move and piece.

Play as characters like:

  • Teddy R., whose signature shape is a big stick
  • The Composter who has five centipede tail shaped pieces
  • The Nature Bug who can sting others with his scorpion tail!

Kabuto Sumo: Total Mayhem

Expansion

Tables, ladders, and chairs — oh my!

The total mayhem expansion cranks up the chaos. The sumo beetles have discovered professional wrestling! These new pieces create hilarious new interactions and win conditions for each match.

Game Design

His son's love of coin-dozer arcade machines was the first inspiration for this game. He lives in the Portland, Oregon area and designs games in between his Operations Engineer day job and the occasional nap.

A friend of Tony's, Kwanchai had a chance to play an early prototype of Kabuto Sumo at a convention. He felt a personal connection to its theme and was immediately delighted by the game. Once as a child, having spent a summer visiting his grandparents in rural Japan, he was given a wrestling beetle in a little plastic cage as a parting gift. Nothing could've been more exotic and fun, for a midwestern kid from the suburbs.
