In Seagrass, players take on the role of marine naturalists, exploring the many reefs and colonies of creatures that thrive among these expanding and diverse “rainforests of the sea.”

Seagrass is an approachable strategy game with surprising depth and layered interaction. On your turn, simply expand a colony of aquatic creatures or expand a reef. Your colonies score you more points the bigger they get, and they help you compete for majorities around reefs. Expanding reefs will increase their point value and help you replenish your hand of tiles, but expanding a reef will also make it a more juicy target for your opponents! Playing out multiple tiles of the same type will grant powerful turns, but spreading out your plays will allow you to score the same colonies more times! Decisions are a tricky strategic balance in this underwater ecosystem.

"A convincing argument can be made that Seagrass is cleaner, richer, and (dare I say it) better than Babylonia thanks to its inviting ruleset, its approachable theme, its convenient portability, and its dynamic variability."

Why You'll Love It

Simple Rules, Tough Decisions:

Turns are simple — either play some creature tiles or expand a reef. Easy as that! But boy oh boy are the decisions tricky. Do you play all your crabs at once to gain majority around a reef, or do you play them out one at a time to keep scoring points on the growing group? Do you play out your starfish now, or do you hope to draw more for an even stronger future turn? Which reef do you help expand — you can increase the value of the reef you are next to, but that will also attract more competition! Is now the best time to use your special jellyfish tile, or will you regret not having it later?

Another Layer to the Fun

Discovery Expansion

The Discovery expansion features tokens that reward players who connect unique creatures to reefs. Carefully balance the timing and variety of connections to reefs in this added strategic layer!
