In EGO (Extraterrestrial Greeting Organization), players proceed through a sequence of major and minor events including auctions, drafts, risks, and more. Risks and egos are the lifeblood of this game as players will frequently find themselves in a game of chicken with their rival ambassadors as they try to impress various alien civilizations and earn political power.

By offering gifts, attempting persuasion, plotting intrigue, exchanging technology, and displaying charisma, these ambassadors will be able to gain advantages and allies. But careless tactics can lead to damaging or even disastrous encounters. Taking a risk during a negotiation event can possibly tarnish your reputation with the aliens...or at least confuse them greatly as you retreat to the ship in a fluster of embarrassment. Yet there's always the chance of a triumphant success, and nobody ever made it to the top without stepping on a few challengers.

“Turn to turn it's so damn captivating. All the play happens above the board pushing and prodding each other to either drop out and press harder and go for broke. A silly game for silly people who want to try hard.”
Kellen, Board Game Barrage

Why You’ll Love It

A Richly Strategic Competition With Spicy Drama

The challenge of EGO lies in looking ahead at the upcoming sequence of events and deciding where to entrench your efforts and where to pull back and preserve your resources. How much are you willing to sacrifice to outshine your rivals? How much will you let your ego get the best of you? Taking risks might just give you the edge that you need to come out on top in a particular encounter, but at what long-term cost? You’ll hear plenty of cheers, gasps, and groans during the thrilling auctions and risk events.

Reiner Knizia has reworked his event sequence system (found in The Lord of the Rings and Beowulf: The Legend) from the ground-up to provide an exciting mix of modular boards and events. The game also features a randomized market of power cards and a large deck of tactics cards, meaning that you’ll discover new challenges, opportunities, and strategies with every play.
