In Mountain Goats, roll dice to move your goats to the top of 6 different mountains. If you're at the top, score points as long as you stay there.
You can share spaces with other goats on the way up, but there is only room for one goat at the top of each mountain! If someone else's goat moves to the mountaintop, they kick you off and you'll have to start your trek over. Mountain Goats is a combination of luck and strategic planning.
The Strategy
Don't fall off the mountain!
Mountain Goats is a game about timing. Not only do you need to get to the top of the mountain, but get there when no one else is in position to knock you off. Depending on the rarity of the roll, the mountain's elevation is different. Should you use those harder rolls, even though other goats are right behind you?
Keep an eye on your opponents! Maximize your score, but also making sure you don't let anyone else score too much.
Knocking each other off the top doesn't feel too mean because you can only knock back goats that are in a scoring position. It isn't a devastating setback, but a normal part of the cycle of the game.
How To Play Mountain Goats
Roll The Dice!
Chuck first, then weigh your options.
Group The Dice To Lock In Your Rolls
The groups must add up to at least five.
Climb The Mountain
"Baaaa" sound effects are highly encouraged.
Score!
Control the tops of the mountains to rack up points, plus get bonus points for visiting all top spots.

Up the fun by adding The Mountain Goat and The Big Mountain expansion packs! The Mountain Goat adds more components to allow for a fifth player. The Big Mountain provides extra points for climbing steep, high-value mountains.
They're great options for players that have played the base game plenty. But, they're not so complex that ruin the pick-up-and-play nature.
